An advert begging 'Save Star Trek' has been placed by fans desperate for more episodes.

The plea, which calls the sci-fi show a 'cultural icon,' appeared in the LA Times after TV bosses said the latest spin-off would end on May 13.

A fifth series of Enterprise, which stars Quantum Leap actor Scott Bakula as Captain Archer, would cost £17million to produce.

Fans have raised only £12,000 but want the Sci-Fi Channel to produce the show.

'Captain Archer and the crew need your help for their journey!' said the advert. Fans plan to rally in Los Angeles on February 25.
