Q Awards 2016: Coldplay, The 1975 and David Bowie lead nominations

The British bands will battle it out at the awards ceremony in November

Coldplay and The 1975 lead the pack for this year’s Q Awards with nominations in four categories each.

The British bands are both up for Best Video as well as Best Act in the World Today and Best Album.

But they face tough competition from late music icon David Bowie, whose album Blackstar has also been shortlisted for Best Album, as has Bastille’s Wild World and Christine and the Queens’ Chaleur Humaine.

Mercury Award Winner Skepta’s Man has been nominated for Best Track, as has The 1975’s Somebody Else, Bastille’s Good Grief, Biffy Clyro’s Howl and Twice by Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Beyoncé has received her first ever Q Award nomination for her Formation video, up against PJ Harvey, Wolf Alice, Coldplay and The 1975.

The music magazine will also present the Merit Award this year, which will recognise career-spanning achievements in categories including Classic Album and Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Newcomers including Blossoms, Jack Garratt and Let’s Eat Grandma are up for Best Breakthrough Act.
