It was part of the Government's campaign, Tune In — Year Of Music, which began in November with US act Jonas Brothers performing at a comprehensive school in Gateshead.

Today, Pixie led a session with 1,200 pupils at Brentwood County High School, teaching them basic guitar melodies, how to put a song together and practising techniques.

Popular kid: Pixie has a Lott of school fans

Pixie, who grew up in Brentwood, said: "Music is such an important part of my life and I champion any initiative that gives it the platform it deserves. I'm thrilled to be able to come into a school and inspire kids to get more involved in it. I just hope they enjoyed it as much as I did."

Headteacher Carol Mason said: "We hope that Pixie's visit today will encourage even more to get involved with music and possibly take up a musical instrument. We hope her talk will inspire them to pursue their dreams."
