Oasis saw off a host of rock legends when their classic Wonderwall was voted best British song of all time yesterday.

The 1995 track, written by Noel Gallagher, never made it to No.1 but still beat Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin.

DJ Pete Mitchell said: 'It is the perfect song to stick your arm around your mate and sing out at the top of your voice after a few beers.' The poll of 100 best songs involved 8,300 Virgin Radio listeners.
