A painter working at US talk-show host David Letterman's ranch has been charged with plotting to seize Letterman's son and nanny for a £2.6million ransom.

Kelly Frank, 43, was arrested after writing to a friend about the kidnap plot. He said he knew where 16-month-old Harry slept and when the family next planned to visit the Montana property.

In addition to a charge of solicitation, Frank has been accused of lying to an FBI investigator - and felony theft for overcharging Letterman for the painting work he did at the ranch.

A statement for Letterman thanked the FBI and police
