Katie Melua has admitted she had a breakdown which kept her away from music for more than a year.

The singer, 26, said at a London Fashion Week party: "I've been very unwell. It's a very sensitive subject. The fact is, I just couldn't go on any longer. I knew there was something wrong because I was just sitting in a chair staring into space."

She plans to tour next month.
