Joely Richardson has spoken for the first time about the death of her sister Natasha, saying there will never be a day when she won't think about her.

"Close": Joely Richardson, right, with Natasha and mother Vanessa Redgrave

The actress revealed how she threw herself into work in the weeks after Natasha died in March.
Joely was back on set filming a new BBC adaptation of The Day of the Triffids the day after her sister's funeral and then went on to appear in historical drama The Tudors.

"A strange autopilot kicks in," the 44-year-old told Tatler magazine. "Your psyche puts your work day into a different compartment from your private life. My first shot back on set was reacting to someone dying."

Natasha, 45, suffered a fatal head injury when she fell while skiing at Mont Tremblant in Canada. Her husband Liam Neeson, 56, flew her to a New York hospital but she died three days later. Joely said: "I can't imagine that there will ever be a day when I don't think of Tasha. I never imagined such a thing as this.

"The shock shatters you to a cellular level and it takes time for the pieces to come back together, albeit in a different formation."

The actress, best known for her role in US drama Nip/Tuck, also revealed that she and her daughter Daisy are moving to New York for two months to be closer to Natasha's sons Michael, 14, and Daniel, 13.

She said she and her sister were very close because of their upbringing by their unconventional parents, actress Vanessa Redgrave and the late film director Tony Richardson.

She added: "So much of what I am is who Tasha was. Siblings are your markers. You've shared the same story and a lot of the same dreams."
