Music fans were warned yesterday not to get caught out by buying tickets for the Glastonbury Festival over the Internet. They were warned that any ticket holder must show photographic ID matching the name on the stub when they arrive at the festival, organisers said.

They issued the warning after a bid for £620 for a pair of tickets was placed on Internet auction site eBay. The offer, which also included the loan of personal ID to get round the new rule, was later withdrawn.

Describing the new measures as watertight, organiser Michael Eavis said: 'Anyone who gets a ticket in this way is wasting their money.' All 112,000 tickets for the event, held from June 24 to 26 in Pilton, Somerset, were snapped up in less than three hours on Sunday.
