Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis says she feels “sexiest” after a run and a swim in the Serpentine.

Maitlis, who is also political editor of the BBC2 programme, said: “I feel at my sexiest when I look my worst: after an amazing run and a swim in the Serpentine. The older I get the more I prioritise fitness over beauty.”

She also revealed how when she worked for BBC London, one viewer used to write in every week requesting that she wear leather skirts — and revealed her biggest on-air fashion faux pas was wearing a Pringle golf sweater.

The 43-year-old said that when she is off work she likes to spend her time in exercise clothes.

In an interview with ES Magazine, to be published tomorrow, she said: “On my day off I am invariably in tennis shoes and gym kit.

“Life is so much more efficient if you stay in running kit all day. I have an entire drawer of Sweaty Betty, and endless black leggings and tennis skirts.” She added: “I’m open to what people tell me on social media but not particularly influenced by it.”
