Zara Larsson: What’s the point of fame if you don’t speak out?

Singer Zara Larsson says it is a “waste of her fame” if she does not speak out about issues close to her heart.

The 20-year-old pop star, who describes herself as a feminist, sees it as her responsibility to spark discussion among her fans.

She told A-List: “If I can shift a debate or open up dialogues, then I love to be a part of that. Otherwise, it’s a waste of my fame if I don’t speak up about things close to my heart.

“Every celebrity out there is passionate about something. I find it a bit funny when huge celebrities never have something to say.”

Larsson, who won the Swedish version of Britain’s Got Talent aged 10, said she doesn't listen to criticism from “dumb” men.

She said: “If someone tells me to f*** off when I say ‘feminism is important’, I just think, ‘Wow you’re so uneducated’. It's hard for me to take it to my soul.

“If someone said my music has changed them, then that means I’ve actually had an impact on someone’s life. I just don’t think I can be that bad that I affect someone’s life negatively.”

The singer is representing the Give A F**k campaign with Durex — ahead of World Aids Day on December 1 — which is supporting the global fight against HIV/Aids.
