Winona Ryder has spoken out on the abuse allegations against ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp.

Describing him as a ‘loving’ and ‘caring’ guy, the 44-year-old claimed that she had never seen the actor display any ‘violent’ tendencies during their four-year relationship.

In an interview with Time magazine, she said: “I can only speak from my own experience, which was wildly different than what is being said.

“He was never, never that way towards me. Never abusive at all towards me. I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves.”

Depp has been accused of domestic abuse by estranged wife Amber Heard, who currently has a temporary restraining order against him.

Ryder continued: “I wasn’t there. I don’t know what happened. I’m not calling anyone a liar. I’m just saying, it’s difficult and upsetting for me to wrap my head around it.

“Look, it was a long time ago, but we were together for four years, and it was a big relationship for me.

“Imagine if someone you dated when you were—I was 17 when I met him—was accused of that. It’s just shocking. I have never seen him be violent toward a person before.”

Depp, who is yet to officially speak out about the allegations, was seen at the Comedy Store in LA over the weekend.

The actor took to the stage with comedian and friend Doug Stanhope during Mat Edgar’s set in one of his first public appearances in recent weeks.

Amber Heard filed for divorce from Depp on May 23, claiming in court papers that the actor had been “verbally and physically abuse” for the duration of their four-year relationship.

A court hearing to consider the domestic violence claims has been postponed until August 15.
