Tom Hanks has predicted that spaceships will land on Earth before Donald Trump is elected as President of the United States.

Hanks, 59, criticised the Republican candidate’s ‘Make America Great’ slogan as he said there would be more chance of alien life existing than Trump moving into the White House.

Speaking to Sky News at the London premiere of his latest film A Hologram for the King, he said: "Here's the problem. America's already great so I don't know what he is talking about.

"I think that man will be president right about the time when spaceships come down filled with dinosaurs in red capes."

Hanks is backing Hillary Clinton's campaign and joined a host of stars including Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba at a Clinton fundraiser last year.

The Oscar winning actor caused a stir as he arrived on the red carpet at London's Southbank for Monday night's premiere.

He was joined by his co-stars Sarita Choudhury, Megan Maczko and Sidse Babett Knudsen.
