The most stylish stars in the worlds of music, film and fashion turned out for this year's technology-themed Met Gala.

Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian and Gigi Hadid were among the A-listers who embraced the futuristic theme for Sunday night's party held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Swift, Idris Elba and Apple's Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive, this year's gala saw designers show off their innovative creations on 'muses' including Madonna, Kendall Jenner, Emma Watson and Jourdan Dunn.

Pop superstar Beyoncé made the most impact on the red carpeted steps, following the release of her much-talked about new album Lemonade.

While most guests opted for silver, metallic outfits, the singer wore a nude latex Givenchy gown, arriving without husband Jay Z on her arm.

Swift also decided to go solo, wearing a custom-made Louis Vuitton skater-style cut out dress.

As usual, all eyes were on reality star Kardashian and husband Kanye West when they arrived at the event.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star predictably wore a metallic Balmain gown while rapper West bucked the tuxedo trend and opted for a rather casual combination of ripped jeans and a T-shirt.

Kardashian's supermodel sister Jenner wore a Versace cut-out dress and posed next to modelling icon Cindy Crawford on the red carpet ahead of the dinner.

Her reality star sister Kylie Jenner made her Met Ball debut in a silver Balmain outfit.

Model of the moment Gigi Hadid arrived with her former One Direction star boyfriend Zayn Malik., making their first ever red carpet appearance together as a couple.

Madonna was clearly out to make a big impact, leaving very little to the imagination in a sheer bondage-themed ensemble designed by Riccardo Tisci.

Keeping up the British contingent at annual event was Emma Watson, who wore classic Calvin Klein wide-legged trousers and an off the shoulder top.

Model Poppy Delevingne, Sienna Miller, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jourdan Dunn and Alexa Chung also put in stylish appearances at the biggest event in the fashion calendar.
