Puberty is hell - especially when you've just befriended the school wild child.

Evan Rachel Wood gives a disconcertingly good performance as the studious girl who suddenly aspires to be like her delinquent friend Nikki Reed (pictured with Wood).

Soon the girls are taking and selling drugs, rolling around with boys and being cheeky to mom (Holly Hunter) and her boyfriend.

Worse, Wood is secretly cutting herself. Mom, as a former wild child herself, is not happy. Zippily photographed, the film hovers uneasily between authenticity (it was co-written by Reed) and pomposity.

Comes with a director's commentary and making-of doc.
