Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested and charged with being drunk in public in Texas.

The 29-year-old was detained by police in Austin at 7.30pm on Friday, with a witness claiming he had been jaywalking in front of officers despite being told to stop.

The Transformers star, who was in the city for a music festival, had reportedly been denied entry to a bar because he was too drunk.

Photos tweeted by onlookers showed the actor apparently being put in handcuffs by police.

He was arrested in the city's Sixth Street entertainment district, where the Austin City Limits music festival is taking place.

Jail records show he was booked into the Travis County Jail and later released.

LaBeouf has previously made headlines with bizarre escapades - including yelling from the audience during a Broadway show and wearing a paper bag on his head to a movie premiere - and has been treated for an alcohol problem.
