Rose McGowan has branded Ben Affleck a ‘liar’ for saying that he was unaware of the sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

The actress, who reached a settlement with the disgraced Hollywood producer after he allegedly assaulted her, has claimed that she told Affleck about the incident after it happened.

Following Affleck’s claim that he had only read of the assault allegations on Tuesday morning, McGowan called him out on Twitter.

“GODDAMNIT! I TOLD HIM TO STOP DOING THAT” you said that to my face. The press conf I was made to go to after assault. You lie,” she tweeted to the star.

Affleck, who is yet to respond to McGowan’s tweet, wrote in a statement that he was “saddened and angry” about Weinstein’s alleged behaviour.

“The additional allegations of assault that I read this morning make me sick,” he wrote. “This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to others.”

He added: “We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughters. We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behaviour when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power.”

Affleck faced a backlash after posting his statement, with US actress Hilarie Burton even accusing him of groping her back in 2003.

Weinstein has now flown to Europe following the New York Times expose, in a bid to see ‘treatment’ at a top facility.

His wife Georgina Chapman revealed that she had left her husband in a statement on Wednesday morning.
