A host of Disney princesses have had a live-action makeover – and now it’s time for Prince Charming to take centre stage in his own film.

Charming – who won the hearts of Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty – will star in the new Disney owned film.

The script, which was penned by Matt Fogel who worked on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, is described as a “revisionist take on the fairy tales”.

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV and Tripp Vinson – who worked on San Andreas – will produce the film while Mandeville's Alex Young will executive produce.

It is not yet known who will play Charming.

The news follows last week’s announcement that Robert Downey Jr. is set to play carpenter Geppetto in the live-action remake of the Disney classic Pinocchio.

It is the latest in a string of live-action Disney remakes including Maleficent and Cinderella.

Beauty and the Beast, starring Dan Stevens and Emma Watson, Jungle Book, which features the voice of Scarlett Johansson, Dumbo, directed by Tim Burton, Mulan and Tinker Bell, starring Reese Witherspoon, are all currently in production.
