The daughter of actor Paul Walker is filing a lawsuit against Porsche claiming that the car her father died in had a number of design flaws.

Meadow Rain Walker, 16, is suing the company for unspecified damages and has argued that the 2005 Carrera GT lacked a proper stability control system as well as safeguards to prevent it from catching fire.

Celebrity website TMZ claims to have seen the legal papers and that they allege the car had "a history of instability and control issues".

The lawsuit is said to claim the actor was not killed on impact but by the fire after he became trapped because the car's seatbelt "snapped Walker's torso back with thousands of pounds of force, thereby breaking his ribs and pelvis".

Meadow's lawyer, Jeff Milam, told TMZ: "The bottom line is that the Porsche Carrera GT is a dangerous car. It doesn't belong on the street. And we shouldn't be without Paul Walker or his friend, Roger Rodas."

Porsche said in a statement: "We have not seen the new lawsuit and therefore cannot comment on its specifics. As we have said before, we are very sad whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe the authorities' reports in this case clearly establish that this tragic crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed."

Walker, 40, was killed when the car he was travelling in crashed in Santa Clarita, California in November 2013. The driver Roger Rodas was also killed.

Following his death, Walker’s daughter set up The Paul Walker Foundation which helps to grant scholarships to students and researchers who work to protect the ocean.

Meadow paid tribute to her father with a touching Instagram post when the website went live.
