Michael Jackson’s Thriller become first album to sell 30 million copies in US

Michael Jackson’s Thriller has become the first to sell more than 30 million copies in the US.

The iconic record, which features songs Beat It and Billie Jean, has smashed the record 33 years after it was originally released.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Thriller has just surpassed the milestone and is now the best-selling album in US history.

John Branca, co-executor of Jackson's estate, said: "Thriller continues to be the yardstick against which all other albums are measured."

Jackon’s album is closely followed by The Eagles: Their Greatest Hits, which has sold a staggering 29 million copies across the pond.

Billy Joel’s Greatest Hits, Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin IV and Pink Floyd’s The Wall all have sold 23 million copies each.

More surprising top ten entries include US country artist Garth Brooks’ Double Live and Shana Twain’s Come On Over.
