Lorde surprises shop assistant with Governors Ball invite

Lorde left a fan in tears after she surprised them with an invite to the Governors Ball.

The 20-year-old singer offered a complimentary ticket to cashier Emely Medina after she served Lorde a smoothie at a branch of Liquitera in New York.

Ms Medina, who captured the encounter in a video, said meeting the Green Light singer ‘made her morning’.

Speaking to the camera, she said: “This is my first famous person, we got Lorde in the house today. She got blue velvet I am shook.”

Hours after they met, Lorde messaged Ms Medina, writing: “Come to the Governor’s Ball on me.”

The singer explained that she was going to pop the question in the shop to celebrate Ms Medina’s new job, but “got shy”.

Overcome with emotion, Ms Medina replied: “Girllllll!!!!!! Omg!!! Yes!! I’m crying [right now]!! This is insane.”

After letting the news set in, she shared a screenshot of the conversation on Twitter, alongside the caption: “Woke up trying to figure out if last night was a dream or real life...”

Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor, is performing second to headliner Chance The Rapper at the Governors Ball on Friday.

She is set to drop a new single on the same day ahead of the release of her new album Melodrama on June 16.
