Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno says Motown inspired new album

Kasabian today announced their new album will be called For Crying Out Loud — and it was inspired by Motown legend Berry Gordy.

Guitarist Serge Pizzorno, 36, said the group want to be the “saviours of rock and roll” and revealed he had given himself just six weeks to write the album.

At a playback of For Crying Out Loud at Spiritland in King’s Cross, he said: “On a grand scale we want to save guitar music from hell and be the saviours of rock and roll. In reality, I wanted to try and make an album full of really good, well-crafted songs.

“I was thinking about the Seventies, when guitar music was hitting that beautiful point, with strong melodies and great riffs. And I was thinking about Motown and how Berry Gordy had this philosophy of, ‘Get ’em within the first eight bars.’”

Frontman Tom Meighan has revealed he suffered a breakdown last year after splitting up with his long-term partner and enduring a friend’s death.

Pizzorno said the band, who will headline Reading and Leeds festivals this summer, remain a strong unit, adding: “Tom — what you’ve got to love about the man, is there is no b*******. He could have easily chosen not to talk about it, but that’s just who he is.”

The album is out on April 28.

Kasabian also have three shows at the O2 Forum Kentish Town from April 18-20 .
