James confirmed to open Glastonbury Festival 2016

James have been announced as the opening act of Glastonbury Festival 2016.

The Manchester band, famed for hits including Sit Down, will be the first act on the Other Stage at 11am on Friday, June 24.

Frontman Tim Booth announced the news on BBC Radio 5 Live, telling listeners: "We're going to cut the ribbon and smash the champagne on the ship.”

The news comes days after Adele was announced as the third and final headline act to perform at the iconic Worthy Farm event.

The singer, 27, broke the news to fans at her concert at London’s O2 Arena.

Addressing the crowd she said: "Who's going to Glastonbury this year? See you there. I'll be there. I'll be headlining on the Saturday night this year."

She joins Coldplay, who will headline the Friday night slot, and Muse who will close the festival on Sunday night.

Other confirmed acts include PJ Harvey, Jess Glynne and Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra who will play the Sunday Legends slot.

Glastonbury 2016 will take place at Worthy Farm over the weeked of June 22-26.
