Helen Mirren has slammed men who put their arms around their girlfriends as it looks like ‘ownership’.

The Oscar-winning star has admitted that it ‘annoys’ her when she sees a man with his arm ‘slung’ around a woman, suggesting that it’s sexist.

Speaking to You Magazine, Mirren said: “It annoys me when I see men with an arm slung around their girlfriend’s shoulders.

“It’s like ownership. Of course, when you’re young, you want the guy to take your hand and look after you.”

She added: “But when I see girls being leaned on, I want to say, ‘tell him to get his damned arm off your shoulder’.”

Mirren, 70, went on to claim that women are still trying to find their way in the world.

She said: “Women are still toddlers in this modern world, trying to find their position in the age of sexual liberation, birth control, education and financial independence. We’re still finding our path.”

Discussing what advice she would give to her younger self, Mirren added: “it would be to use the words ‘f*** off’ more frequently.”

Mirren recently hit out at women being described as ‘fiesty’, claiming that it's never used to describe men.

She told The Times; “Only women are feisty. It just makes me gag.”

“We need to find new words for female power and funniness and smartness.”
