Glamour Awards 2017: Nicole Kidman pays tribute to ‘strong’ London after terror attack

Nicole Kidman paid tribute to London in the wake of the recent terror attack as she collected a prize at the Glamour Awards.

The Australian actress honoured the capital for its “strength” following the attacks at London Bridge on Saturday night, saying that she was “standing” with Londoners.

“I'm so happy I'm here, in person, to give love back to London because London has given me so much,” she said. “It is great to be standing here with you strong.”

The Oscar-winning actress, who was a fixture at the Cannes Film Festival last month, went on to say that she was embracing the fact that she was about to turn 50.

“I'm about to turn 50 in two weeks. And I never thought this would be one of the best years of my life,” she said as she picked up the Best Film Actress trophy at the event on Tuesday.

“I thought at 40 that I'd be retired by 50, but I want to tell everyone it begins and 40 and begins at 50.”

Kidman went on to dedicate the award to Sofia Coppola, who directed her in the forthcoming The Beguiled and became the second woman to ever win the Palme D’Or at Cannes.

“I'm changing my name to Nicole Kid-woman,” she joked. “Kidman is just wrong here.”

Other winners at the glossy magazine’s annual award ceremony, sponsored by drink brand Patrón, included The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby who was named Best TV Actress and Billie Piper who won Best Theatre Actress.

Sharon Horgan was named Best Comedy Actress, while Emma Willis won TV Personality and Dua Lipa won the Breakthrough Award.
