Celebs often wax lyrical online and in interviews about their fans for keeping them in the spotlight.

They may even reply to tweets or dish out treats at gigs - but on rare occasions some lucky fans are given the opportunity to come face-to-face with their idols.

Here's five of the best celebrity fan surprises:

1. Ariana Grande: One Last Time

Pop princess Grande made her return to music this week with new song No Tears Left To Cry after taking a break in the wake of last year’s Manchester Arena terror attack.

She jumped back into the scene to debut the song on The Jimmy Fallon Show - and made sure to get her army fans involved.

Celebrating her return, the pop sensation surprised die-hard fans who were put in a booth to sing her hit, One Last Time. The singer then sneaked up as they passionately belted out the lyrics, making for a hilariously adorable watch.

2. One Direction: “I swear they just moved”

Boyband sensations One Direction, who are currently on a hiatus, were always creative when it came to surprising their fans.

Their global success saw the group bag themselves wax sculptures at London's Madame Tussauds - and they made sure to take advantage of the occasion. The group plastered themselves in make-up to give them a wax-look before unsuspecting fans queued up to pose with what they thought were wax works.

But as a group of girls prepared to take photographs the boys revealed themselves - giving the 'directioners' the shock of their lives.

3. Daniel Radcliffe: “I’ll be hiding here”

Harry Potter star Radcliffe set out to surprise a group of fans after retiring his wand and wizards cape ahead of his rom-com What If. Unsuspecting fans partook in what Radcliffe described as a “cunning and joyful act of deception”.

They gathered into a cinema and were told they would be answering questions about the film. But unbeknown to them Radcliffe was spying on their reactions. In the midst of giving their reviews Radcliffe personally took it upon himself to thank them for their feedback.

4. Selena Gomez: “You look so real”

Kill Em with Kindness singer Gomez left one fan stunned after she was convinced she was playing with a virtual reality headset. The fan was briefed on the tech and told that it would allow her to see a host of “superstars” inside the Capital FM studio.

However, whilst playing the game, Gomez asked the fan to reach out for a high-five, to which she is met with the surprise of her life.

5. Shawn Mendes: “Are you okay?”

Mercy hit maker Mendes stole the heart of a fan who believed she was appearing on a Swedish radio station to talk about her love for the 19-year-old singer.

As the super-fan went to reveal what she would say to Mendes if she met him, he crept up behind her, forcing her to run to the other side of the room in shock.

Her utter disbelief was apparent when she “couldn’t even look” at Mendes, who shyly admitted that she was making him “nervous.”
