Dr Dre looks set to top the UK album charts for the first time with his Compton soundtrack.

The iconic rapper and producer is currently outselling the rest of the top five combined, meaning that he is on track to become this week’s number one.

His first album for 16 years, which features tracks from Kendrick Lamar and Eminem, has been released ahead of film Straight Outta Compton, which hits screens next week.

Frank Turner’s Positive Songs For Negative People is currently sitting at number two in the UK charts, with Don Broco entering at number three with Automatic.

Years & Years’ Communion has been knocked from the top spot into fourth place, with Ed Sheeran’s X completing the top five.

Straight Outta Compton follows the rise of influential hip hop group N.W.A in the late 1980s, directed by F Gary Gray.

Original members Dre and Ice Cube are producers on the eagerly-anticipated film, which will hit cinemas in the UK on August 28.

Ice Cube’s eldest son O’Shea Jackson Jr plays his father in the film, making his acting debut.

He told the Associated Press: “I’ve been seeing him rap these words forever, you know? So it’s cool to finally be on the other side of that.

“To have been looking at his movements and then getting them down. I had the time of my life.”
