After years of self-imposed silence, David Bowie has capped a successful return to the music scene by claiming six nominations in the prestigious 2013 Q Awards.

After making a surprise comeback in January with his single Where Are We Now followed by his first album in ten years The Next Day in March, Bowie is in the running for the Best Track, Best Video, Best Album, Best Solo Artist, Best Act in the World Today and Best Event categories.

Other notable nominees include Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Daft Punk, Muse and The Stone Roses for their live act at Hyde Park.

However, the most hotly contested category is the Best New Act, which has Jake Bugg, Disclosure, Palma Violets, Laura Mvula, TOY and Tom Odell pitted against each other.

With two nominations for the Best Solo Artist and Best Track for her UK number one single Burn, Ellie Goulding said: "It means so much to be nominated for a Q award, I have read and loved Q Magazine for as long as I can remember. It's an honour to be nominated in these categories with these nominees."

The Q Magazine’s annual awards ceremony will be hosted by Al Murray - aka The Pub Landlord - in London on 21 October.

Q magazine Senior Editor Matt Mason said: "It's been another unforgettable year for music, and the nominations reflect the breadth and brilliance of artists from the UK and beyond.

“The return of David Bowie proved that, even in the digital age, pop stars retain the ability to completely amaze and surprise us, while the phenomenal success of Daft Punk showed that you can still reach right across the globe with one great song."
