David Baddiel was feeling nervous ahead of the press performance of his new musical The Infidel last night, and took to Twitter to ask fans to wish “more broken legs” for him.

The comedian and presenter tweeted: “Two hours or so till @InfidelMusical Press Night starts. Do wish me more broken legs than a squashed centipede, please.”

The Infidel - co directed by Baddiel and the Theatre Royal Stratford East's artistic director Kerry Michael - follows the story of Mahmud Nasir an East End Muslim and successful business owner who discovers that he was adopted and is actually Jewish.

The 50-year-old was joined by Erran Baron Cohen, 46, who composed the music for the musical.

A host of Baddiel and Erran’s friends were in attendance to offer their support including Erran’s younger brother Sacha Baron Cohen.

The Borat star - who celebrated his 43 birthday on Monday – was looking remarkably smart in a grey bowler hat and matching jacket with round rimmed glasses.

Also in attendance was TV presenter Johnathan Ross and his wife Jane Goldman. The 53-year-old dressed down in jeans and a leather jacket as he posed for photos with wife Jane who was sporting Halloween inspired leggings.

Johnathan is set to return to screens on Saturday with a new series of The Johnathan Ross Show. Guests will include Sir David Attenborough, X Factor judges Mel B and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, and Anchorman actor Steve Carrell.

The Infidel - The Musical is at Theatre Royal Stratford East until 2 November.
