Carry On franchise to release first new film in 25 years

The Carry On franchise is gearing up to return with two brand new films.

More than two decades after the last film was released, Jonathan Sothcott has teamed up with Carry On to bring a slate of new films to the screen.

According to Variety, Carry On Doctors and Carry on Campus are the first two to be getting the remake treatment, written by Tim Dawson and Susan Nickson.

While the duo behind sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps will pen the screenplay, Brian Baker will act as executive producer.

He told Variety: “I’m very excited for the project to go into production, and to honor Peter Rogers’ legacy.

“He was a cornerstone of the British film industry for many years and it is a privilege to continue the ‘Carry On’ tradition.”

“I’m thrilled to be involved in perhaps the biggest comedy franchise in Britain. I grew up watching these films and to be working on this project feels like coming home,” said Nickson.

The original ensemble cast featured stars including Kenneth Williams, Sid James and Barbara Windsor.

A source told The Sun: “This has been on the cards for some time.

“All being well with work on the script it will start shooting in October with a release pencilled in for 2017 - which will coincide with the 25th anniversary on the last film.

“There’s a brilliant team behind this and they’re determined to make it a success.”
