Britney Spears asks for ‘wishes and prayers’ for critically injured niece
Britney Spears has called on fans to pray for her eight-year-old niece who was critically injured after an all-terrain vehicle accident on Sunday.
Maddie, the daughter of Britney's younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, was in the Polaris off-road vehicle when it flipped over and fell into a pond.
Britney posted a picture of Maddie on Twitter and urged fans to pray for her recovery.
“Need all the wishes and prayers for my niece,” she tweeted.
Maddie was trapped in the vehicle underwater for several minutes as family members tried to free her from the safety belt and netting.
She was later airlifted to hospital and is said to be in a stable but critical condition.
Britney's plea came a day after Jamie Lynn's father, Jamie Spears, told Entertainment Tonight: “All I can say is pray for our baby Maddie.”
Jeff Raymond, a publicist for Jamie Lynn, said the family is asking for people to “respect their privacy during this time and appreciates all the prayers and support for their family.”
Messages of support flooded in from fans who started tweeting with the hashtag “pray for Maddie”.
Perez Hilton was among those sending well wishes and posted: “She's been in my thoughts consistently since yesterday! Praying!!!”
