Veteran singer Bonnie Tyler is confident her long career in the spotlight will stand in the way of any backlash at this year's Eurovision song contest.

The Total Eclipse of the Heart singer is representing the UK at the annual contest held in Sweden this year, but isn't worried about it damaging her reputation as she has feels it is already cemented.

She said: "People love Eurovision. I know what you mean, but if I don't win it's not going to damage my reputation - people know me much too well already from my live shows.

"They have seen me give so many powerful live performances. I am a live singer. And I believe in the song."

Tyler, who's entry is called Believe In Me, hopes she will fare better than last year's UK song, Love Will Set You Free by Engelbert Humperdinck, because her track is perfectly suited to her.

The 61-year-old star added: "I think he's got a strong voice, but the song wasn't strong enough for him. It wasn't the right song. His hits in the past have been powerful, and I don't think it had anything for him to get into.

"Mine is a good song, and I've got six people on stage with me. I won't be having any dancers, it will be straightforward performance, musicians and backing singers."

The Eurovision Song Contest starts on May 14 in Malmo, Sweden with the final taking place on May 18.
