Veteran New Jersey bikers were left rubbing their eyes in disbelief when they came upon hometown hero Bruce Springsteen stranded by the roadside.

Riders from the Freehold American Legion had just attended a Veterans Day event when they came across a man next to his broken down motorcycle in Wall Township.

But little did they know the stranded motorcyclist was the legendary US artist, known as The Boss, famous for popular hits such as Born to Run, Dancing In The Dark and Born In The USA.

Mr Barkalow said: “I stopped to see if he needed help, and it was Bruce. Bikers gotta stick together.”

He said the singer hopped on the back of fellow rider Ryan Bailey’s bike before the group headed to a bar where they discussed their mutual interest in motorbikes.

He added: “We sat there and shot the breeze for a half hour, 45 minutes till his ride showed up,"

"Nice guy, real down to earth. Just talked about motorcycles and his old Freehold days."

Mr Bailey added: "It was nice to help out. One Freehold person helping out another."

Mr Springsteen was raised in Freehold and still lives in New Jersey.

According to the Associated Press, the singer-songwriter is eligible to join the group since his father was a veteran.

During an interview with Channel 4 last month, Mr Springsteen predicted Donald Trump would lose the US election as he branded him a “flagrant toxic narcissist”.
