Lily James and Ansel Elgort seemed to be enjoying London’s soaring temperatures as they joked around on the red carpet at the London premiere of Baby Driver.

Instead of heading straight into the Cineworld Leicester Square, the rising stars spent ages chatting to fans and having some fun in the sun on Wednesday evening.

James, 28, who was in LA with boyfriend Matt Smith just two days ago, seemed in great spirits as she took centre stage on the red carpet, taking the time to sign as many autographs as she could.

Co-star Kevin Spacey looked well and truly ready for the scorching weather, arriving in a white T-shirt and dark sunglasses.

Man-of-the-moment Elgort went for a far more formal look, keeping on his black suit jacket despite the 30ºC heat.

Edgar Wright’s eagerly-awaited new summer film is a musical crime comedy, starring Elgort as a young getaway driver who is coerced into working for a crime lord in exchange for a better life.

Already described by some as the film of the summer, critics have heaped praised on the genre-dodging project, which also stars Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm.

Elgot, who also works as a DJ in the music industry, recently told Billboard that he wants to have a career that is “uncategorisable”.

“Eventually, I hope I can have a career that’s uncategorisable. And that’s hard. I think that would be very difficult to do, but I’m hopefully going to pull it all off,” he said.

“I don’t walk around calling attention to myself. It’s important to be able to blend in; otherwise you turn into a Hollywood douche bag.”

He added: “I’m sure plenty of people think I am one, too. I’m super easy to hate. But it’s fine. It’s hard to be liked and successful.”
