DVD/Video: Spider, Redbus Home Entertainment, 15, £19.99/£12.99
Dennis Cleg (Ralph Fiennes), nicknamed Spider, is a prisoner of his own mind, locked into the memories of his devastating London childhood. Having spent most of his life in institutions, Spider is tentatively returning to the real world - but each step takes him closer to the past.

David Cronenberg's adaptation of Patrick McGrath's novel is an exquisite Gothic chamber piece. Fiennes puts in a suitably brittle performance of ticks and grunts, but it is Miranda Richardson, split in Spider's mind into three discrete characters, who steals the show. The DVD includes cast and crew interviews.
