Scrappy start for Radwanska

Third seed Agnieszka Radwanska kicked off the action on Court Two at Wimbledon with a comfortable if scrappy win over Magdalena Rybarikova.

Despite losing her serve three times, the 23-year-old Pole still had more than enough to see off her unheralded opponent 6-3 6-3.

It was not a classy affair, though, with both players understandably searching for rhythm on the grass, while Rybarikova needed treatment during the second set after hurting her knee in a fall.

Both players lost serve inside the opening two games, before Radwanska took control, with a backhand winner putting her 3-1 ahead and a shot into the net from the Slovakian giving the favourite the set.

The first three games of the second set all went against the serve, before Rybarikova called a medical time-out at 2-1 down.

She recovered sufficiently to get back to 3-3 but, after losing her serve twice more, there was no way back.
