Hoops to appeal Cha red

Cha Du-Ri
26 March 2012

Celtic have confirmed they will appeal against Cha Du-Ri's red card in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Rangers.

But the Parkhead club will not challenge referee Calum Murray's decision to dismiss Victor Wanyama in the clash at Ibrox.

Cha was sent off after 29 minutes for denying Lee Wallace a goalscoring opportunity on the edge of the box. Wanyama then saw red after 57 minutes for a challenge on Steven Whittaker as Celtic ended the Clydesdale Bank Premier League match with nine men, while manager Neil Lennon was also sent off at half-time.

A statement from Celtic read: "Celtic are to appeal against the red card issued to Cha Du-Ri during Sunday's derby match against Rangers at Ibrox.

"The South Korean defender was sent off in the first-half of the match by referee Calum Murray following a challenge with Lee Wallace of Rangers.

"There will be no appeal against the red card issued to Victor Wanyama in the second half of the match."
