Two men were arrested after a woman was shot while tending her horses in a Kent village

A woman is recovering after being shot in the leg while she tended to her horses in a quiet village.

Two men, both aged 62, have been arrested and freed on bail by detectives pending further inquiries.

They were detained after the woman, named in reports as Louise Leggatt, 54, was gunned down in Benenden, Kent, on March 15.

Kent Police said: "Police have arrested two men after a woman from Benenden was shot in the leg last Thursday March 15 whilst tending to her horses.

"A 62-year-old man from Tenterden was arrested on Friday March 16 and has been bailed pending further inquiries until May 31.

"Another 62-year-old man from Ashford was arrested on Tuesday March 20 and has been bailed pending further inquiries until June 1."

The woman is said to be "making a good recovery".

According to local reports, Ms Leggatt has been given police protection in hospital.

The shooting comes after her home was targeted by arsonists, the Weald Courier reported.
