A gunman wearing an Afghan army uniform has shot and killed a service member fighting with US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan, according to Nato.

The incident is the latest in a rising number of insider attacks which are fracturing the trust between Nato and Afghan forces.

US Army Major Martyn Crighton said the service member was killed on Sunday. His identity and nationality were not disclosed.

Mohammad Zarak, spokesman for the governor of Helmand province, said the shooting took place in Nad Ali district after an argument between an Afghan soldier and coalition forces.

At least 45 separate insider attacks, where members of the Afghan security forces or insurgents dressed in their uniforms turn their guns on US and allied troops, have killed more than 60 Nato service members so far this year.
