Police probe 'bad batch' of drugs

Police are trying to find out more about a "particularly bad batch of drugs" after a man died and five people were admitted to hospital at a music venue.

Police were called to Manchester Royal Infirmary at about 4.30am today after the death of a 30-year-old man who had collapsed at the Warehouse Project in Trafford, Manchester.

Officers were also made aware that five other people had been admitted to hospital feeling unwell after taking a "controlled drug" at the same venue, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

They are currently being assessed and treated by medical staff.

An investigation has been launched and inquiries are ongoing, the force confirmed today.

Detective inspector Aaron Duggan said: " It is possible that there may a particularly bad batch of drugs out there in the community and

that is a concern to us."

Mr Duggan added: "If you attended the Warehouse Project last night and are feeling unwell, I would ask you to go to hospital for a check-up as soon as possible.

"I would always urge people not to take illegal drugs and remind them that you do not know what they have been made up with. They can contain poisons and illicit chemicals that can have potentially fatal effects."
