Barclay set for crunch talks after hopes for deal revived

Stephen Barclay is today to hold key talks with the EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier after hopes for a Brexit deal were revived.

The Brexit Secretary’s meeting in Brussels comes after Boris Johnson and his Irish counterpart Leo Varadkar said they can "see a pathway" to a deal.

Mr Barclay's talks look likely to give the clearest indication of whether there has been a significant thawing of relations between London and the EU.

Vardy: A row with Rooney like arguing with pigeon

Rebekah Vardy has said a row with Coleen Rooney would be like "arguing with a pigeon" as the fallout from their highly public dispute rumbles on.

The wife of ex-England captain Wayne Rooney alleges she has proved Vardy's Instagram account was the source of leaked stories about her private life.

The claims have headlines around the world.

Vardy, the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie, furiously denies any wrongdoing and said she has hired a cyber-security expert to clear her name.

Shaking hands for more than three seconds can trigger anxiety and affect the state of relationships, a study has found.

Researchers found that shaking hands for longer than “may appear to be a warm gesture” was met with negative behaviour.

The study comes after Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, made headlines for their longer-than-normal handshake.

Jones: Scotland to blame if knocked out by super typhoon

Eddie Jones has insisted the blame is Scotland's alone if they are knocked out of the World Cup by Super Typhoon Hagibis.

The Scots will miss out on the quarter-finals if their match against hosts Japan in Yokohama on Sunday is called off due to the huge storm.

England secured qualification with a game to spare and Jones said: "We've been talking about it all the time, about the possibility that this was going to happen.

He added: “You know what's going to happen. It's typhoon season here and you've got to be prepared for it.”

A decision on whether the match will go ahead is pending. Follow the latest updates on this story at standard.co.uk.
