A Texas newlywed couple were killed in a helicopter crash just hours after tying the knot.

Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman-Byler were killed when the helicopter they were leaving their wedding in crashed north of Uvalde on Saturday, KENS-TV reported.

The couple were identified by a student-run newspaper at the Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, which both the newlyweds attended.

"It is with deepest sadness that we announce the tragic passing of two Bearkats: Will Byler (Agriculture Engineering senior) & Bailee Ackerman Byler (Ag Comm senior) in a helicopter accident departing their wedding," the paper said on Twitter.

"We ask that you keep the families in your thoughts and prayers."

Uvalde Police received a call from an aviation monitoring centre around midnight on Saturday notifying them of a possible downed aircraft.

The wreckage was located yesterday with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Border Patrol and Uvalde Fire Department, CBS reported.

The US National Transport Safety Board said it was investigating the crash of a Bell 206B helicopter in Uvalde, Texas.

Uvalde Fire Department reportedly told local KENS media that multiple people died in the crash.

The couple are said to have grown up rodeoing and were frequently photographed together at rodeo shows.

Mrs Ackerman-Byler posted on Instagram in August that they were "so in love", and friends and classmates have taken to social media to share tributes to the couple.

Dakota Wells paid a tribute to the couple on Twitter and said they had just celebrated their fairytale wedding.

"RIP Bailee and Will. Congratulations on a beautiful wedding and I hope y’all are enjoying the best honeymoon in heaven," she added.
