A teenager in Germany has lost his driving licence just 49 minutes after passing his test.

The 18-year-old was on his way back from the test centre in the town of Hemer when he was stopped by police for speeding.

He had been travelling at twice the speed limit – 60pmh in a 30mph zone.

In a statement German police wrote: “Some things last forever – others not for an hour.”

Officers have speculated that the driver was trying to show off to the four passengers inside the vehicle at the time.

The teenager has been banned from driving for four weeks and handed a 200 euro fine.

He will have to undergo retraining before he is allowed to take his test again.

As soon as he passes his test, the licence will have two points docked.

His probationary period as a new driver has also been doubled from two years to four.
