Team of Britons to row unsupported across Atlantic and Indian Oceans in £100k charity mission

A firefighter will lead a team of Britons as they row unsupported across the Atlantic and Indian Oceans to raise £100,000 for Parkinson’s disease and PTSD.

Billy Taylor, from Bow, will be the team’s skipper when they take on the “Brain Waves” challenge in January.

He and crew member Alex Mason will be joined by Scott Butler and Liz Dennett for the first leg - from Lanzarote to Antigua.

Mr Taylor and Ms Mason, who it is believed will become the first woman to row across two oceans in the same year, will take a short break before attempting the Indian Ocean crossing, this time with John Haskell and Rachel Hearn. Together they will row from Australia to Africa.

Mr Taylor said: “We expect plenty of challenges, sleep deprivation, avoiding large ships and no proper meals.

"It’s also the physical strain of the challenge, we’ll be doing shifts of two hours rowing followed by two hours resting, for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

They are raising money for the European Parkinson’s Disease Association, Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust, Clear Trust and Combat Stress.
