French terror suspects were plotting to attack Charles de Gaulle airport and a shopping mall in La Defense, it has claimed.

Police sources reportedly told France 2 television the group who were involved in a gun battle in Saint-Denis this morning were prepared to commit “imminent attacks” on Paris’ hub airport and the Mall of Quatre Temps.

The Mirror reported two searches were carried out by police at the airport earlier today to look for ‘connections to radicalisation’.

One of the searches took place in the cargo section of Air France, it was claimed.

An airport spokesman said: “They have no direct link with the attacks but serve several purposes, including looking for elements connected to radicalisation.”

Gunfire broke out this morning during a mass operation to arrest the mastermind behind last week’s attacks in Paris.

Two people, including a female suicide bomber, died after the group engaged in gunfire with police.

A police dog, seven-year-old Diesel, was killed in the shoot-out and four police officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
