The hunt for a new manager at Manchester United has prompted more than a few headlines in recent days.

But an Australian newspaper appears to have mistakenly put an unlikely candidate in the frame for sacked boss David Moyes' job.

Free daily newspaper mX today used a picture of former Neighbours actor Ian Smith, who played Harold Bishop in the soap for more than 12 years, in a story in its sport section about Dutch football manager Louis van Gaal.

Readers posted pictures of the newspaper page on Twitter, prompting jokes from other users.

Scott Langford wrote: "You mean Harold isn't the new manager? Damn it!"
