A New York airport was evacuated after a furious passenger told airline staff he would “come back with a bomb”, according to reports.

Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport was closed for 90 minutes following reports that a passenger had been arguing with a Spirit Airlines worker when he made the threat, WABC news reported.

Passengers were forced to leave the terminal at the hub in the north of the city following the hoax.

A tweet from the airports official account posted around 8am (1.50pm BST) read: “Due to police activity in Terminal B flights are currently disrupted. Please check with your airline for further information.”

The airline added: “Due to police activity, #LGA concourses A & B at Terminal B are not accessible and passengers should expect delays.”

Shortly before 10am the terminal reopened after the threat was deemed “non-credible”, another tweet said.
