A man is facing an aggravated assault charge after allegedly throwing an alligator into a drive-thru fast food restaurant.
Joshua James, 23, from Jupiter, Florida, reportedly wanted to play a practical joke on a friends working at a branch of Wendy’s in Royal Palm Beach.
His parents told WPTV that he decided to hurl the large reptile into the building in a “stupid prank”.
Mr James reportedly found the alligator, which was three-foot in length, on the side of the road and led it into his truck before driving to the fast food restaurant.
WPTV reported Mr James placed his order at the drive-thru window and after he was handed his drink, threw the animal into the opening.
The incident is alleged to have happened in October, but Mr James had only just been arrested.
He is now facing charges of aggravated assault and unlawful possession and transportation of an alligator.
WPTV reported Mr James appeared in court on Tuesday morning and was ordered not to visit Wendy’s restaurants, avoid contact or possession with animals other than his mother’s dog and to avoid possessing any weapons.
He was also told to undergo a mental health evaluation.
The alligator was released back into the wild at a nearby canal after the alleged incident.
