Ku Klux Klan to hold Donald Trump victory parade

The Ku Klux Klan is set to hold a “victory parade” to celebrate Donald Trump being elected President of the United States.

The Loyal White Knights of Pelham in North Carolina - one of the largest branches of the far-right group in the US – have arranged the celebration for December 3.

On the Klan’s website there is a large picture of Mr Trump, along with the words “TRUMP’S RACE UNITED MY PEOPLE”.

A prominent KKK newspaper, the Crusader, previously appeared to endorse Mr Trump for Presidency after publishing a front-page spread titled “Make America Great Again” – the slogan of the President-elect’s campaign.

And former KKK leader David Duke publically supported the Republican candidate, tweeting a stream of congratulations messages when he won.

But the Trump campaign distanced itself from the group and its rhetoric.

In response to the paper's front page, it released a statement saying: “This publication is repulsive and their views do not represent the tens of millions of Americans who are uniting behind our campaign.”

The Trump campaign had repeatedly been forced to defend itself against accusations of racism and discrimination in the lead up to the election following a series of controversial comments made by the President-elect.

In the wake of the 2015 California shootings, Mr Trump called for a total ban on Muslims entering the US - which led to condemnation from the White House.

He said a border shutdown should be brought in to “keep Americans safe”; sparking accusations that he was inciting racial hatred.

And Mr Trump has repeatedly called for a wall along the Mexico border in an attempt to clamp down on illegal immigration.
