Giant sea of foam engulfs streets in California

Hatty Collier19 November 2016

A huge sea of foam has engulfed the streets surrounding an airport hangar in the US.

The giant blob of flame retardant foam filled the roads around the hangar at the San Jose airport in Santa Clara, California.

The bizarre incident was sparked by a malfunctioning fire suppressant system, the Santa Clara Fire Department said on Twitter.

A fire alarm is said to have malfunctioned inside the hangar causing the foam to spew out of vents and billow into the streets.

Residents living nearby have been warned not to touch the foam as it is a skin irritant.

Video footage showed one man wading through it before saying: “It feels like soap.”
