World champion boxer Errol Spence Jr, who was rushed to hospital last week after a horror Ferrari crash, has been charged with drink driving.

Spence was discharged from hospital and charged with driving while intoxicated by Dallas police on Wednesday.

The boxer swerved into oncoming traffic just before 3am on October 10, police said.

In the wake of the crash, images showed the white sports car smashed up after it flipped over several times with the driver thrown from his seat.

Spence Jr, 29, is a unified welterweight champion and has been ranked one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world.

After the crash, fellow boxer Terence Crawford shared a message to Spence Jr on Twitter and wrote: "Praying for you champ @ErrolSpenceJr get well we fighters I know you will."

Kell Brook also wrote: "Get well soon champ! Thought are with you and wishing you a full and speedy recovery."

It comes after the former US Olympian added the WBC welterweight title to his IBF strap with a split-decision victory over Shawn Porter last month.
